Spain is a country with a lot of immigration from Senegal and unfortunately many lose their lives trying to get there, and this route across the Atlantic is proving to be the deadliest. In the last week of October 2019 alone, 480 people lost their lives trying to reach Spain.
Regular emigration from Senegal continues to grow year after year, reaching almost 650,000 people in 2019, with Spain being one of the most prominent destinations with 8%.
Senegal, a country with a lot of potential::
The agricultural sector is key to driving the economy, as well as an engine for inclusive growth, employment and poverty reduction. It represents 15% of the total GDP. The weather conditions are ideal for agricultural development.
The creation of the “Emerging Senegal Plan” wants Senegal to become an emerging economy by 2035. Agricultural production is based on: Sugar cane, rice, corn, etc.
Something must be done:
In the summer of 2019, Sabater Spices Senegal was born in order to promote work at origin. We sent our agricultural engineers to study the land and train future farmers and a year later we are proud to say that we directly employ almost 200 families in all phases of the product’s life. Among them around 70% are women, incorporating women into the labor market. We currently have 50 hectares planted with paprika plants, and we want to continue with our work, increasing to 75 hectares.
From origin to table:
All our products pass rigorous quality controls and everything begins in the planting phase, which is why we have created the “Sabater Agro” app where our field staff can carry out an exhaustive control of each plant. All this helps to ensure complete traceability of the product, ensuring compliance with our standards.
